The Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi has ordered a probe into the financial activities of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, MAN, Oron in Akwa Ibom State and the remission of N18 billion by the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, to the institution within the last five years.

Amaechi’s demand for a full audit of the institution’s finances is predicated on allegations of financial recklessness and large-scale corruption leveled against the institution’s rector, Mr Joshua Okpo.

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

PDP senators, however, staged a walk out in protest of the confirmation of Amaechi.

The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, led the walk-out.

Rivers Assembly empowers Attorney-General to sue former governor, Rotimi Amaechi over handover note

Rivers State House of Assembly has passed a resolution directing the state Attorney-General, Mr Emmanuel Aguma, to use legal means to compel former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, to present a handover note to the present administration in the state.

Governor Nyesom Wike had stated on several occasions that his predecessor refused to do a proper handing over, thus making it difficult to ascertain the assets and liabilities of the state.

The immediate past Governor of Rivers State, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, has described the probe of his administration by his successor, Nyesom Wike, as a sham, a fraudulent witch-hunt meant to deceive the public.

In a statement released by the former Governor’s Media Office on Sunday, Amaechi described Wike as a sick man who is sickly fixated on rubbing him (Amaechi) with his (Wike’s) mud of corruption and then grabbing media headlines with his concocted bogus stories of ‘Amaechi’s alleged corrupt activities.’

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has inaugurated a judicial panel to investigate the administration of his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi.

The panel was inaugurated Friday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

Mr. Wike, a former member of the Amaechi administration who later fell out with his boss, has accused Mr. Amaechi and other officials of that government of stealing properties belonging to the government.
