INEC declares Seriake Dickson winner of Bayelsa Governorship election

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Seriake Dickson has been declared winner of the Bayelsa State governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Mr Dickson polled 134,998 votes to emerge winner of the election. Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr Timipre Sylva, scored 86,852 votes to place second.

INEC announce date for Benue South Senatorial re-run

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has scheduled the Benue South Senatorial district re-run election for Saturday, February 13.

The electoral body gave the date for the re-run in a statement on Friday.

Benue South Senatorial District is made up of nine Local Government Areas, 102 Registration Areas, 1,016 Polling Units and a total of 1,174 Voting Points.

While political parties await a new date for a fresh election in Southern Ijaw, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disqualify the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Bayelsa governorship election, Chief Timipre Sylva, for allegedly announcing fake results.

The PDP also cautioned the APC-controlled Federal Government against alleged moves to forcibly declare its party winner of the polls against the wishes of the people.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has cancelled the elections which held in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

INEC says the polls were marred by several electoral malpractices especially ballot box snatching and thuggery.

The situation in Southern Ijaw, according to INEC, renders the election inconclusive.

The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Alh. Yahaya Bello as the winner of the Kogi governorship poll.

APC polled 247,752 votes to defeat PDP who came a strong second with 204,877 votes.

In the supplementary election held today, APC polled 6885 votes to beat PDP which polled 5363 votes.

In renewed defence of its position, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday explained that the Kogi election was declared inconclusive on account of violence in some parts of the state.

This is as Federal High Court, Abuja Division yesterday fixed Friday, December 4 to determine whether or not to stop the INEC from proceeding with the planned supplementary governorship election in Kogi State.

The running mate of the late candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi governorship election, Mr James Faleke, has sued the INEC and his party a day after the late candidate was substituted.

Mr Faleke’s suit is consequent to the replacement of the late Abubakar Audu with Mr Yahaya Bello on Monday, retaining Mr Faleke as the new governorship candidate’s deputy.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has confirmed that the All Progressives Congress, APC has submitted the name of Yahyah Bello as its candidate for replacement of Abubakar Audu in the Kogi State supplementary election due for Saturday.

Audu, the candidate of APC in the substantive election held on 21 November had died as the results of the election were being announced the next day. He was leading his closest challenger, Idris Wada who is also the incumbent governor of the State by 41,000-vote lead before his death.

The running mate to late Abubakar Audu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s governorship election in Kogi State, has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare him governor elect.

James Faleke, in a November 26 letter to INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, insisted that under Section 187 of the 1999 Constitution, he was duly elected as deputy governor of Kogi State.
