Delta State Police Command yesterday announced a ban on all public processions and protests of any kind across the state without the express permission and protection of the police.

In a statement on Tuesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mr Akali Baba Usman, said the ban was advised by the determination of the police “to safeguard public safety.”

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has in a secular directed that policemen should forthwith stop accessing people’s mobile telephones illegally.

Court summons Police IG for contempt

The National Industrial Court of Nigeria, Abuja, has ordered the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Solomon Arase, to appear before it on Feb. 8, 2016 to show cause why he should not be committed to prison for contempt. 

Justice Peter Lifu gave the order in a ruling he delivered on Monday in a post-judgment case on wrongful dismissal of Sgt. Atabo Okpanashi.

Police arrest masquerade and 20 others for violence, robbery and kidnapping in Kogi

The Kogi State command of the Nigeria Police, on Tuesday, paraded 21 suspected criminal including kidnappers, armed robbers and a masquerade that have been terrorising the people of the state in recent time.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Williams Aya, who paraded the suspects at headquarters of the command in Lokoja, the state capital, alleged that one of the suspects in the guise of celebrating masquerade festival stabbed one Ishak Yusuf to death.

Security expert, Mr. Ona Ekhomu, has urged the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to exercise caution in handling pro-Biafra protests.

Ekhomu noted that if these agitations were not handled properly handled by the country’s security agencies, it could result into more violence in the country.

Police IG deploys extra police to the South East after Biafra protests

The Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, on Wednesday ordered reinforcements to the southeast, after protests by pro-Biafran groups and an apparent attempt to blockade a key bridge in the region.

Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase said he had ordered the deployment of extra officers “to reinforce security” in areas where demonstrations were occurring.
