EFCC arraign Kaduna Council boss, Ibrahim Baba for fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Thursday, January 7, 2016 arraigned one Ibrahim Akut Baba, caretaker Chairman Kaura Local Government, Kaduna State before Justice Tukur Muazu of the State High Court sitting in Kaduna on one count charge bordering on obtaining by false pretence.

The petitioner, Alhaji Auwal Ibrahim of Rahusa Investment Limited, Sabon Hunkuyi, Kaduna State alleged that, sometimes in 2011, the accused informed him that, he had secured for him a contract for the supply of gas at N200, 000.00 (two hundred thousand naira) per truck and that, he should advance him a total sum of N1, 000,000.00 (one million naira) for five trucks.

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai on Wednesday announced the dissolution of the interim management committees of the 23 local government councils in the state.

The dissolution which was announced in a government statement signed by the Special Assistant Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, explained that the decision was based on the expiration of their six-month term of office.

Female members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria comprising the Shi’ite sect, on Tuesday in Kaduna, northcentral Nigeria, demanded for the unconditional release of their revered leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky and his wife.

The women wing of the Shi’ite sect also called for immediate release of their husbands and children that are currently in detention facilities.

A group of 18 elders in the ruling All Progressives Change (APC) in Kaduna State on Wednesday condemned the purported suspension of Senator Shehu Sani from the party, declaring that the action was childish.

Sani, who represents Kaduna Central senatorial zone in the senate was suspended by his Tudun Wada ward, Kaduna for failing to appear before a disciplinary committee to defend himself over accusations that he was criticising President Mohammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption war and Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State has suspended the Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani, for a period of 11 months over his alleged constant criticism of policies of the APC-led government both at the state and federal level.

The suspension was contained in a letter from the Tudun Wada Ward 6 in Kaduna North Local Government, signed by the party’s secretary, Ahmed Abdulhamid and the Public Relations Officer, Aminu Alilan on Monday.

Heavy fighting broke out late Saturday night into the early hours of Sunday, between men of the Nigerian Army and members of the Islamic movement of Nigeria also known as Shi’ite, following the surrounding of the house of leader of the movement, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, by troops.

Following what the Nigeria army described as an assassination attempt on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur Burutai at about noon on Saturday, when his convoy was attacked by the Shiite members, the troops returned to El-Zakzaky’s residence in Gyallesu area of Zaria, at about 11pm.

The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has appealed for calm and peace following the clash between soldiers and an Islamic group in Zaria.

The clash between soldiers and members of the Shiite Muslim group left at least three persons dead on Saturday, December 12.

At least seven people are feared dead with others injured following a bloody clash between some armed soldiers and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria in Zaria, Kaduna State.

While the Army is accusing the Shiite followers of attempting to assassinate Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, the Islamic movement said soldiers simply decided to attack “defenseless people”.

Kaduna Governor, Nasir El-Rufai cancels Ramadan welfare package

The Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, on Friday cancelled the annual Ramadan “welfare” package distributed to Muslims in the state.

Past administrations distributed rice, millet, vegetable oil, milk, sugar and other commodities to Muslims; and also hosted religious groups to Ramadan breakfast.

Governor El-Rufai said his government could not continue sharing state resources.
