The Borno State Government has said that the former Coordinating Minister for Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, should account for the N3.2 billion realised in support of the “Safe School Initiative” under the previous administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Chairman, Borno State, Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Shettima Kullima, who made the call on Tuesday, in Abuja, at the 14th quarterly meeting of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) management with Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs.

The former Finance Minister and the Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has released a memo in respect of the arms deal saga.

Report have it that the ex-minister approved the request for the transfer of $300 million and £5.5 million of the recovered Abacha funds to ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki despite knowing that request was outside the scope of the law.

Former Minister of Finance, and Co-ordinating Minister for Economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, was said to have illegally approved the transfer of N61.4 billion from funds recovered from late dictator, Sani Abacha, to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, few weeks to the 2015 presidential election.

According to a letter signed by Okonjo-Iweala, the former Finance minister signed off the transfer of the funds but requested then President Goodluck Jonathan to directly demand accountability from the then National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki.

Former Minister for Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has said the solution to Nigeria’s power problem lies in off-grid initiatives that are climate friendly and not going to the West to beg as victims.

Okonjo-Iweala, who spoke at the Conference of Parties (COP 21) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, (UNFCCC) in Paris, France, said Nigeria needs to get the private sector involved in the power sector, adding that government must look at renewable and off-grid solutions like the solar power generation.

Former Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has requested the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari to call Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole to order over the Governor’s recent efforts to link her name to the alleged $2.1 billion arms issue.

The former minister stressed that she has absolutely nothing to do with the issue.

She stated that it is an abuse of public office, the judicial process and her human rights for Governor Oshiomhole whom she stopped from taking a highly suspicious N15 billion loan to make false allegations against her while hiding behind the constitutional immunity granted state governors.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has “received several documents from the World Bank totalling over 700 pages on information on the spending of recovered assets stolen by the late General Abacha, with some of the documents suggesting that Abacha loot was spent on roads, electricity, education, health and water.”

This information was disclosed by SERAP executive director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, in a statement dated November 29, 2015.

Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) denies approving Okonjo-Iweala’s $2billion withdrawal

The Federation Account Allocation Committee on Tuesday faulted comments credited to a former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that it approved the withdrawal of $2bn from the Excess Crude Account.

The committee, in a statement issued on its behalf by Forum of Finance Commissioners in Abuja, stated that the law setting it up did not give it the power to approve withdrawals from the ECA.

In her reaction to allegation by the Edo State governor, Adams Oshiomhole, that she unilaterally approved the withdrawal of about $2 billion from the $4.1 billion left in the Excess Crude Account “without authorization”, Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala had explained that the withdrawal was discussed at the meeting of the FAAC attended by state finance commissioners.

Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi-Iweala, has questioned the reason for an excessive attempt to batter her name and damage her reputation, saying it is malicious.

In reaction to clarification statements by Finance Commissioners on the use of the Excess Crude Account, which were made to clear the former Finance Minister of accusations that she misrepresented the facts, Dr. Okonjor-Iweala said that the persecution was very political.
