The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC explained, yesterday, why it has not arrested former President Goodluck Jonathan following startling revelations on how the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (retd) allegedly disbursed over $2.1 billion meant for arms purchase to various individuals.

Explaining why the former president has not been arrested while speaking with online news publishers yesterday, in Lagos, the EFCC boss, Mr Ibrahim Magu said that no document has been traced to Jonathan giving any approval for the disbursement of the money for any purpose other than arms purchase.

A group, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, on Sunday wrote to former President Goodluck Jonathan to tell Nigerians the level of his involvement in the alleged diversion of the $2.1bn earmarked for the procurement of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgents.

In the said open letter signed by its Executive Director, Adetokunbo Mumuni, SERAP highlighted 11 questions which Jonathan must answer, stressing that Nigerians had the right to get the ex-President’s answer to those questions.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan on Monday night recalled how his acceptance of defeat in the 2015 presidential election put an end to predictions and prophecies by some Nigerians that the country would burn.

Jonathan, who posted a message on his Facebook wall to accept an award from The African Sun Times as International Person of the Year 2015, described the 2015 presidential election as “most transparent, violence-free and credible.”

A cable available to Southwark Crown Court, UK has revealed how a former Nigerian president, Goodluck Jonathan, was code-named “Fortunato” by Italian accomplices in the $1.1 billion Malabu deal.

Italian authorities investigating the mega deal had provided evidence to the court indicating the involvement of the former president.

As the probe into the utilisation of funds in the office the National Security Adviser (NSA) continues, the presidency yesterday denied a report that President Muhammadu Buhari collected $300,000 and five armoured SUVs from the NSA’s office following the attack by suspected Boko Haram members on his convoy in Kaduna last year, but admitted that the president got two SUVs from the Goodluck Jonathan administration.

A statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the president’s media aide, Mr. Femi Adesina, said Buhari received one armoured SUV and one untreated SUV from former President Goodluck Jonathan after he (Buhari) was attacked.

Former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, has disagreed with critics of former President Goodluck Jonathan who described him as incompetent saying Jonathan was rather “inexperienced” rather than “incompetent.”

General Babangida who spoke with The Interview magazine in the December 2015 edition which is currently on sale argued that Jonathan who lost his re-election bid in March “is a very pleasant person” and that he believed the former president meant well for the country.

Tension rose on Monday on the streets of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa state capital, following report of an attack on former President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan by unknown youths.

But the state police Command immediately debunked reports to douse the tension as it a group of youths who mistook the president convoy for that of APC governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva were arrested, but upon investigation, it was proved that they have no evil intention.
